Sitting still and working full-time is getting harder by the day. We’ve spent less than a week on the road since the year began and often we dream of relaxing by an idyllic beach sipping on cocktails.
Fortunately our next adventure is just under two weeks away – a three night jaunt to Australia’s Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef.
You may know Hamilton Island for running the Best Job in the World promotion back in 2008 and we’re extremely excited to be visiting this little piece of paradise in our very own backyard.
Where We’ll Be Staying
We’ll be spending our three nights on Hamilton Island at the 4-star Reef View Hotel with views of the Coral Sea and nearby Whitsunday Island.
It’ll be the perfect place to base ourselves and explore the island although it may be difficult to drag us away from the hotel with Catseye Beach located directly opposite and a large number of hotel features including water sports available to us.
What We’ll Be Doing
Our three-day itinerary is jam-packed full of fun activities including:
- Exploring the spectacular Great Barrier Reef with Fantasea Adventures.
- Spending an afternoon on the award-winning Whitehaven Beach.
- Eating breakfast with the koalas at Wild Life Hamilton Island.
- Enjoying one of Hamilton Island’s beautiful sunsets on a sea kayak while sipping on a glass of sparking wine.
- Relaxing at one of the island’s beaches or pools and simply doing nothing at all!
And that’s just the beginning! Tennis, beach sports and perhaps a scenic helicopter ride over Heart Reef are all on the agenda and we can’t wait to share all of these adventures with you on Don’t Ever Look Back over the next few weeks!
How We’ll Be Getting Around
Cars are prohibited on Hamilton Island and there’s only one way to get around… on our very own golf buggy!
We’ll be taking a self-drive tour of the island on our first day and will just enjoy cruising around from point to point in true island style. It might sound crazy but driving a golf buggy around Hamilton Island is one of the things we’re most looking forward to!
Looking at all of this, no wonder we’re getting excited about our trip to Hamilton Island!
How much would you like to visit Hamilton Island one day?

Hope you have a great time, we went years ago to Daydream island, landed at Hamilton Island and caught a boat from there, had a great time. Its great to see Australia too!
Thanks Jenny! I’m sure we’ll have a great time and one day we’ll make it out to Daydream Island as well… Australia is such a beautiful country and we’ve finally opened our eyes and have decided to explore more of it!
Looks amazing guys! Not sure our backpacker budget will stretch to Hamilton Island but determined to see the Whitsundays. Have a brilliant time
As I said on Twitter, you could always base yourself at Airlie Beach and do day trips to the Whitsundays from there!
Looks amazing!!! Hope you have a great time. Safe Travels!

One word….Wow! If the promo pics are as good as the real thing you will have a great stay.
We had our own golf cart staying in a hotel off the gold coast, amazing fun especially when going over speed bumps after a bottle or two of wine!
Finger crossed we will be able to make it there when we are in Australia early next year.
We’ll soon find out! Hopefully the weather is perfect and we can get some similar photos.
Can’t wait for the golf cart, sounds like so much fun! Stay tuned and our visit there might convince you to visit Hamilton Island in 2013.
I love that there aren’t any cars on the island – so unique. Have a lot of fun – I’m looking forward to your posts!

I went to Hamilton Island about 9 years ago with my family – it’s where my parents met! It’s one of my favorite places ever. I loved riding around in golf carts everywhere…I don’t blame you for being most excited about that
And Whitehaven beach is just breathtaking… Enjoy your trip, it sounds like you’ve got some great activities planned!
