6 Months On: State of the Blog

6 Months On: State of the Blog

6 months ago we started Don’t Ever Look Back as an avenue to discuss our impending long-term travel plans and to share our adventures and photographs once we finally got on the road. Our website has evolved a hell of a lot since then and we’re very proud of the growing community that has gathered here to share in our incredible highs as well as our disappointing lows.

To mark our 6 month blogging anniversary, we’ve decided to dedicate this post to summarizing what’s been happening over the past few weeks and to update everyone on the state of our upcoming round-the-world trip plans.

Singapore/Philippines

In early April, we spent 3 nights in Singapore and 3 nights in the Philippines. We haven’t had a chance to write about our adventures yet, but we do look forward to sharing these stories with you very soon!

Some of the highlights of this short trip included:

  • Our first ever hostel experience in Singapore.
  • An all-you-can-eat ice cream and dessert buffet at Swensen’s Ion.
  • A traditional Filipino wedding.
  • Enjoying the attractions at Sentosa Island, Singapore.
  • Sipping on a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel and drinking from a drip bag at Clinic Bar.
  • And plenty, plenty more!

Malaysia

After spending just one night in Melbourne, Kieron was back on a plane and over to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for 4 nights courtesy of Travelscene American Express and their awesome partners Emirates, Travelscene Holidays, Tourism Malaysia and Parkroyal Hotels. It was an action-packed few days full of fun and good times including a Malaysian Cooking Class, Batu Caves, a Cultural Show and the Menara KL Tower.

Look out for a daily journal of my time in Malaysia on the site sometime in May. Until then, here are a few of the best photos from my time there.

RTW Plans

As you may have read, our round-the-world trip plans were turned on their head after finding out that Kieron was rejected for a Canadian Working Holiday visa. This means that our plans will be changing significantly, but how exactly is yet to be determined. With 96 days to go until our departure, we need to make some important decisions very soon and will hopefully have a some sort of plan by the end of April. Here are the questions we’re asking ourselves at the moment:

  • Should we keep the departure date as July 26 or should we bring it forward a month so we can enjoy more of the Northern Hemisphere summer, budget permitting?
  • Where should we head after the United States? Central/South America or Europe for the end of summer and La Tomatina/Oktoberfest?
  • Should we travel for 6 months, come back to Melbourne and then re-evaluate our next move (eg. considering different working visa options). Or should we just see where the road takes us?

No matter what happens though, we’re still as excited for our adventure as we ever have been and can’t wait for these last couple of months to fly past!
