Amy’s Round-the-World Packing List

Amy’s Round-the-World Packing List

You’ve seen Kieron’s packing list but my one is a little different. See, a lot of people will think I’m overpacking or bringing things that are unnecessary but so far I’m happy with what I’ve got and have used just about everything in my pack.

I’ve already briefly touched on my packing list in the post 6 packing essentials for a stylish female traveler and you’ll see more of that in the list below – I am passionate about taking care of my skin and also like to look good even while I’m traveling.

Oh, and one more very important thing!

A Tube of Vegemite

Yes, I also have a tube of Vegemite in my pack that I have nearly used up in just over 2 weeks! Anyone know where to buy some in the USA? No, seriously.

Well anyway that’s my packing list – it looks like the longest packing list of all time but the majority of things on here are small and fit easily within my pack. So what do you think?

When you get to Cali, try looking for a Trader Joe’s or a Whole Foods. They might have it or at least might be able to point you to an international food store that would carry it. Also, Chowhound.chow.com is a good site for asking about anything food – you might be able to post a thread there when you have travel plans firmed up to see if anyone can assist.

Thanks for the advice! Was so worried I wouldn’t be able to get it haha.

LOL You Aussies and your damn Vegemite! I agree with Tricia, try Trader Joes, Whole Foods or World Market. In fact…I think I might stop by World Market this weekend and buy some… just to see what the fuss is about.

I’ve grown up eating it, it definitely is different if you’re not used to it! But give it a try and let me know how it goes!

I believe Tuck Shop in NYC sells vegemite: http://www.tuckshopnyc.com. When I was on my way back to the states from Australia, I tried to bring about four jars of vegemite through security only to have it confiscated for violating the liquid restrictions. It was really sad to see the jars being thrown away.

Thanks so much for the link – even if they don’t have Vegemite, a meat pie and some lamingtons after 3 months away from Australia would go down great! That sucks about them taking away the vegemite, what a waste!

    Great list Amy!

I have a Kodak Playsport as well – what do you think of it? I really want to go diving to test its capabilities!

I managed to find Vegemite in a few places. Not sure if they are on the the west coast but World Markets (http://www.worldmarket.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=11045485) is the best place I found in the US for stocking up on Vegemite (and Tim Tams!)

Love the Playsport! It’s probably the best video camera going around (some editing is required) but the underwater function is awesome – we took it with us when we went swimming with sharks and it worked really well (videos coming soon).

Thanks for the link – at least I know I can get my hands on it over here!

Amy, thanks for your RTW packing list!

Love the list almost identical to mine (except the vegemite) my bag was only 15kg and there is still stuff (mainly clothes) that I have never used. It’s not until you leave that you realise how little you can live on isn’t it. Love the blog.

    • Posted August 12, 2011 at 7:39 pm | Permalink

I’m actually going through my clothes quite quickly but most of them are pretty small items. Definitely getting used to living on less, thanks for the comment and following our blog!

I would be so bad at this, you’ve done really well not getting carried away with shoes! love the vegemite x

  8. Posted August 14, 2011 at 8:10 am | Permalink

Specialty food stores tend to have Vegemite — here in my medium sized town there are two stores that carry it 🙂 I haven’t seen it at Whole Foods, but stores that say they carry international foods always have them. It’s been $8-10 for a small jar though! I actually bought one for 2 pounds in England last week so I can make Cheesymite Scrolls soon.

Bring what makes you happy, Amy! I think it’s the best way to go 🙂

How did you guys go with keeping a pack full of clean clothes? Have you got any tips about doing your laundry on the run?
I’m very particular about having clean clothes, especially clean underwear LOL!

Hey Jeff, we did our washing as much as possible – usually in a laundromat or the hotels we stayed in often had washing facilities. A lot depends on which countries you’re visiting – in Thailand you can pay less than a couple of bucks to get a kilo of washing done.

As for underwear, if you’re staying somewhere for long enough then you can always do it in the sink and hang them up to dry.

Great list, we’re busy putting our final list together for our round the world trip! Its difficult isn’t it?! We’ve gone with a 40l and 60l backpack and we did a practice pack which fitted everything in!

Its amazing how much space the technology takes up!

It was extremely difficult but we both ended up doing pretty well (apart from looking the same in all our cold weather photos!). Both of our packs were 65L so you’ve got a little less space to work with but hopefully the flexibility will pay off for you…

And yes, technology is a killer and this was only a small part of what we had (check Kieron’s RTW list to really let your jaw drop haha).

Vegemite? I’ll have to google that one.

I love your list – it’s much more realistic to me than most lists I see… how do girls travel without a hair straighter?!?

We’d love to introduce you to Vegemite when you make it to Australia! 😀

Haha glad you like the list – there were some things that Amy wasn’t willing to leave behind so pack in what makes you happy and that you’ll use, not what other people tell you to!
