An Ultra Modern Stay In Trendy Reykjavik

An Ultra Modern Stay In Trendy Reykjavik

Trendy, stylish and sophisticated are three words that come to mind when describing the city of Reykjavik and one hotel that fits the mould is CenterHotel Thingholt which is where we stayed during our 9-night visit to Iceland.

Ideally located next to Reykjavik’s main shopping street, Laugavegur, Hotel Thingholt is close to restaurants, bars and within walking distance to Reykjavik Harbor and the offices of Iceland Excursions. Be warned though, the hotel is right across the street from the popular b5 bar and can get quite noisy on a Saturday night (but you’ll be out partying with the locals, right?).

The hotel oozes elegance as soon as you step through the big wooden door and walk down the stairs into their lobby/bar area. Designed by a leading Icelandic female architect, Thingholt is described as “ultra modern, yet classic, allowing natural materials and strong colours to take over.”

We arrived at Hotel Thingholt just before 9am and were allowed an early check-in and breakfast at the cost of 50 Euros. When you’re suffering from jetlag after an overnight flight, this is money well spent as we filled up on food before heading up to our room for a much-needed shower and some relaxation.

Both of us were immediately impressed after stepping foot into our beautifully designed room at Hotel Thingholt. Although cosy, it was the perfect size for a traveling couple like us with a comfortable double bed, separate doonas, adjustable heating and a white leather sofa.

The bathroom was equally as nice with a modern touch – a mixture of concrete and glass complete with heated floors for comfort.

Our only issue with such modern decor and fixtures was that it was quite confusing how to use some of the lights and getting the temperature correct in the shower. But these were just minor annoyances that we quickly overcame during our stay.

A buffet breakfast and wireless internet was included in the nightly price which is always a bonus! We also have to give huge credit to the front desk staff at Hotel Thingholt who were always extremely friendly and only too happy to help us whenever we needed it.

If you’re visiting Reykjavik and want a really nice and centrally located hotel then take a look at CenterHotel Thingholt. We loved our time there!

A huge thanks to Súsanna from ICELANDisHOT for organizing us a discounted stay at CenterHotel Thingholt. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Wait you guys are backpackers right?! Haha, jk, but that place looks expensive! Definitely nice though.

Haha I honestly wouldn’t call ourselves backpackers (less than 10% of our time has been spent in hostels) – we’re value-seekers more than anything!

The rooms at Thingholt can be as little as 85 Euros per night which is decent in Iceland, especially with the free wifi and breakfast included.

Perfect timing! I was just writing a post about Reykjavic and looking for places that our readers might like to stay, this place looks spot-on. I’ve recommended the hotel and included a link to your blog, here’s the link if you’d like to take a look (comments welcome!):
    Thanks again, Claire

Thanks Claire, that’s great you were able to use our post and hopefully your readers get something out of it also. :)

PS. The link back to our blog isn’t working, looks like it needs the “http://” in front of it.

great review, convinced me to book for Christmas there. Tripadvisor is just so confusing sometimes, I very much prefer such a blog post over their rating system.

That’s great Daniel! So glad we could help – enjoy your stay at Hotel Thingholt! :)
