Four Traveling Couples To Follow In 2012

Four Traveling Couples To Follow In 2012

Recently there has been a huge increase in the popularity of travel blogs based around couples travel which has been fantastic to see. We love seeing other couples doing what we’re doing and sharing their passion for travel in the form of an online travel blog.

With 2011 drawing to a close, we thought we would compile a small list of travel blogs who we expect to achieve big things in 2012. We were very tempted to include some of the popular couples blogs we love such as The Planet D and yTravel Blog but this is about the up-and-comers who deserve some recognition too.

We limited this list to blogs who:

  • Started blogging seriously in 2011.
  • Were consistent with their writing in the second half of 2011.
  • Have the momentum to become major travel blogs in 2012.

So here’s our list – four traveling couples you need to be following in 2012!

GQ trippin

GQ trippin

There’s no traveling couple that reminds us more of ourselves than Gerard & Kieu of GQ trippin. G is obsessed with his gadgets and photography (just like Kieron!) while Q is into beauty, fashion and cosmetics (just like Amy!). If you like us, then we guarantee that you’ll like them.

Gerard and Kieu’s blog has surged in popularity over the past 6 months and with their round-the-world trip just days away from commencing, GQ trippin is destined for bigger and better things next year.

We partied with Kieu in Las Vegas over the Labor Day long weekend and are looking forward to catching up with these two when they arrive in Melbourne next month.

Hecktic Travels

Hecktic Travels

Mix an enthralling writer and a talented photographer and you get the super awesome Hecktic Travels. The lovely Dalene & Peter Heck have been traveling since 2009 and have no plans of stopping anytime soon as they housesit their way around the world.

These two have already built up an impressive following since relaunching their website in January 2011 and we predict that 2012 will be a big year for this Canadian couple.

We spent four nights with Dalene & Pete in London and their passion for life, travel and blogging certainly rubbed off on us. If you want to read some entertaining stories of travel in South America and Europe and see some fantastic HDR photos at the same time, you need to check out Hecktic Travels.

Captain and Clark

Captain and Clark

The story behind Captain and Clark’s upcoming round-the-world trip is sure to suck you in – it did for us! Their plans started with a small post barrel in the Galapagos where Tawny & Chris collected 22 letters which they intend to hand-deliver to destinations including Colombia, Spain, Morocco and India – read more about their plans in the #rtwsoon interview they did with us.

And with Iceland being this couple’s first destination on their trip, we’re really looking forward to seeing what they get up to there and over the next 12 months! Be sure to give them a follow – they’ll definitely keep you entertained.

Four Jandals

Four Jandals

New Zealand’s Adventure Couple, Four Jandals, is our dark horse for 2012 with a big chance of shooting to prominence. Cole and Adela started Four Jandals to share travel stories with their families (much like we did) but are slowly growing their fanbase and will be one to watch over the next 12 months.

The two of us met Cole at WTM in London and despite being such a newcomer to the blogging scene, we were seriously impressed by his professionalism and determination. With those attributes and a strong desire to make their blog a success, we have a feeling that good things for these two is just around the corner.

Our pleasure Dalene! It was so awesome seeing how dedicated to the blog you and Pete were which was definitely a big inspiration for us. I’m sure we’re not alone when we say we can’t wait to see what you two get up to in 2012 (especially in NYC!) and I know we’ll meet up somewhere else in the world one day.

Awww thanks Amanda! We probably should be out promoting ourselves a little more – but we would’ve overlooked ourselves anyway since we started back in October 2010 (and this one’s all about the 2011 newbies!)… 😉

Agree with Amanda. You guys should be featured. Can’t wait to see what is in store for you both in 2012!

haha of course I have to do some shameless self promotion for James and I! In 2012 we are going to be primarily travelling around Australia, but in late 2012/ early 2013 we will be taking on south and central Asia!

Great list – three of them are new discoveries for me but I’m liking what I see. I love that couples travel blogs are taking off, maybe I need to try harder to talk my husband into getting involved with mine …

Glad you found some new blogs (and ours as well!) – solo travel blogs are still the norm but you’re right, it’s nice to see couples blogs emerging which is why we decided to give them a little recognition. 🙂

It amazes us that not more couples write about their travels since we think they are as common as solo travelers. Glad to hear you’re enjoying traveling as a couple, it really does make the experience much more special!

  13. Posted December 18, 2011 at 2:51 am | Permalink

Thanks for the links to some new couple travel blogs to follow! We love connecting with other like minds in our own travels.

In reading the comments above, it always surprises me that couple’s blogs are not seen as prevalent as solo traveling ones. I suppose that since we’ve connected with so many other traveling couples over the years, our viewpoint is a bit skewed 🙂

Not a problem! At the end of the day, if you’ve got some great stories to tell then you’ll have a readership regardless of whether you’re a solo traveler or a couple.

With that said, a lot more credit seems to go to the solo travelers and even recently we attended the WTM conference in London and were the only couple there (as far as I know) with at least 10-20 solo bloggers.

  14. Posted January 29, 2012 at 10:19 am | Permalink

This is a really fun list!! It’s just SO special to share these experiences with the one you love, happy to see others doing it! We’ll be working hard for the next list hehe! Hm, maybe we should all organize a HUGE “double-date” international style haha!

There are a few here that I didn’t know about, which being a list of four means I’m slacking on keeping up on whose who and whose heading off on their great big adventure. My wife and I take off at the end of this year and can’t wait to really get into traveling.
