Do more with less! That’s a wonderful lesson that travel, in general, teaches all of us. Cutting costs is as simple as getting down to the basics, and truly valuing what’s worth your time and money. Thanks for this great resource to further motivate my saving!

Thanks for the list! I’m saving for a trip to Japan in early June so will be doing my best to save as much as I can before then. It’s hard to cut things you habitually indulge in to save money but just have to keep thinking of the end goal.

I find that I naturally don’t spend much when I’m preparing to travel – probably because I’m inside on the computer all the time doing trip research! (or else spending more time with my family prior to going away). I think one of the big tips is not to end up overspending on gear for travel and other trip expenses that you pay for prior to leaving. Most of the time I haven’t needed these things in the end.

Great post on saving tips! I;m SI happy to see I’m not alone in my cheapness (er, frugality?) Seriously though, it’s all about spending your hard earned cash on what matters to you, and new clothes and an expensive car just aren’t all that and a bag of chips to me! It’s experience that matters…. thanks again, I learned a few new tips even!

Really cool article, somethings I hadn’t considered & other stuff rings true. No need to stay in 5* the whole way, but remember to treat yourself for saving so hard.
A personal fave to save some cash is to dine on local street food. – Go where the locals go and you (probably) won’t get sick.

    – Few exceptions to every rule, so be smart about what (& where) you eat.
