Gossip Girl Tour of New York City

Gossip Girl Tour of New York City

Before departing on our round-the-world adventure, we both watched a lot of television back home in Australia. While in the USA, TV sucked us in again on a few too many occasions and we even attended a live taping of the Jerry Springer Show.

So when we were invited on a TV tour of New York City, we saw another opportunity to feed our minor addiction and signed up for the Gossip Girl Tour on our first afternoon in NYC.

New York Palace Hotel

New York Palace Hotel - home to Chuck Bass and the Van der Woodson Family.

The tour started at the New York Palace Hotel and for those of you who haven’t seen Gossip Girl before, you may know it as a luxury hotel in Manhattan. However for Gossip Girl fans, The Palace is the home of Chuck Bass and the Van der Woodson family and the location of many scenes on the show.

Over the next three and a half hours, our enthusiastic tour guide Lindsey took the tour bus around Manhattan and taught us more about “Manhattan’s Elite”. The tour took in six of Manhattan’s neighborhoods (a great way to see the city for the first time!) and we drove past many of the filming locations from Gossip Girl and stopped at a few sites, including the famous Met Steps.

This provided us with a great photo opportunity but the main highlight on the Gossip Girl Tour for us was the stop at Dylan’s Candy Bar. Dylan’s is a famous destination in New York City and the location of a scene from Season 2 of Gossip Girl where Dan and Vanessa search for an anniversary gift for Nate.

We were quite literally like kids in a candy store and excitedly explored this massive location for nearly thirty minutes. Even if you don’t take the Gossip Girl Tour, be sure to stop off here if you visit New York City as it’s quite the sight to see!

Neither of us had seen much of Gossip Girl since the first two seasons so it was very beneficial to have mini-televisions hanging from the roof that played video clips from the locations we were visiting. This was not only great for the episodes we hadn’t seen but also the moments we couldn’t remember.

If you’re a huge Gossip Girl fan, taking the Gossip Girl Tour with On Location Tours in New York City would be a great idea. However, the New York TV & Movies Sites tour or the Sex and the City tour may be more relevant if you’re not familiar with the names Serena, Blair, Dan, Nate and Chuck and still want to see some of the famous TV sites in NYC.

Disclaimer: We received a complimentary tour from On Location Tours. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.
