Images Of Cebu, Philippines

Cebu is definitely one of our favorite places in the Philippines and we figured it’s about time we shared some of our favorite photographs with our readers.

Kieron has family living in Cebu which gave us an amazing opportunity to explore the area with the help of some local knowledge. Here are some of the highlights from our visit…

Lapu-Lapu (Mactan Island)

For those flying into Cebu, you’ll arrive at Mactan Cebu International Airport on Mactan Island. Mactan Island is home to several luxury resorts but it’s also home to a very important part of Filipino history.

Boats at Magellan Shrine Park

The 20-meter high shrine to Lapu-Lapu resides on Mactan Island, remembering the native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers and killed Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521. It’s a very impressive bronze statue and if you’re around during April or May, you may be lucky enough to see a re-enactment of the battle!

Magellan’s Cross

Magellan’s Cross was planted by Ferdinand Magellan upon his arrival to Cebu City in April 1521 and is a symbol of Christianity in the Philippines. This occured less than a week before the Battle of Mactan which we wrote about above.

Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro was built in the early 1700s to protect against Muslim raids and is full of history with a nice manicured garden inside.

Tops

This photo doesn’t look like much since we were actually among the clouds but visit Tops on a nice day and you’ll get to see a beautiful view of Cebu City’s skyline. Despite our lack of a view, it was a nice escape from the warm temperatures and you really do feel like you’re on top of the world.

Taoist Temple

The Cebu Taoist Temple is located in the wealthy residential area of Beverly Hills and features some impressive Chinese architecture and culture. It’s a peaceful place that attracts a lot more tourists than you would imagine – worth a quick stop if you have the transport.

Kawasan Falls

Kawasan Falls is one of the best places to visit in Cebu – it’s located two hours from Cebu City and a lot of tour operators come out here. Bamboo rafts are available for hire that take you directly under the falls but it’s a swim in the refreshing clean water that will make your day.

Just remember to bring a towel!
