Langkawi Cable Car – What Not To Do

Langkawi Cable Car – What Not To Do

One of the top things to do in Langkawi is the Panorama Langkawi Skycab, also known as the Langkawi Cable Car. This attraction is the steepest cable car ride in the world spanning a distance of 2.2 kilometers (1.4 miles) and it provides breathtaking views of the island.

With potential for views like this, it’s hard not to get excited about visiting here.

Due to the cable car’s proximity to the Berjaya Langkawi Resort, we procrastinated on taking a cable car ride due to overcast weather but eventually bit the bullet and went on a slightly cloudy day.

Do not visit the Langkawi Cable Car on a cloudy day!

Things might look fine from the ground when you’re about to board the cable car.

But by the time you reach the Middle Station at 652.5 meters above sea level, your breathtaking views will be a world away and you’ll be looking out into something like this…

At the Top Station (700 meters above sea level), you’ll be walking through the clouds and visibility is even lower. Take a look at the picture below!

These photos only tell part of the story though. Not only will your panoramic views be ruined, you’ll endure perhaps one of the most terrifying rides of your life to reach the peak of Macincang Mountain.

The two of us are usually fine with heights but cram us into a tiny little cable car that climbs at a seemingly impossible incline of 42 degrees and we start to think a little differently. Add to that the fact the cable cars are suspended by just a couple of steel cables and even the toughest of the tough must surely feel some panic.

We were convinced that we were going to fall out of the sky and into the forest below but fortunately that didn’t happen! We were however left with severely sweaty hands and feet, Kieron in particular couldn’t even bear to look at times.

If you get to visit the Langkawi Cable Car on a sunny day, we’ll be extremely jealous and both of us would love to see your photos. It would probably rate right up there as one of the most scenic cable car rides on earth and a beautiful day out.

But if it’s a cloudy day, we say stay well away!
