Let the road trip begin!

Let the road trip begin!

Earlier this week we announced our final California Road Trip Plan and tomorrow, Sunday August 21, marks the beginning of our two-week adventure.

For those of you following our time in Hawaii, Seattle and beyond, don’t despair – we’ve still got plenty more great stories to share with you from these fantastic destinations over the next few weeks! But right now, our focus is solely on the journey ahead and after a good night’s sleep we’re picking up our Fox rental car from San Francisco airport and beginning the 200-mile drive to South Lake Tahoe.

Destination #1: South Lake Tahoe

When we first planned this road trip, we weren’t sure whether to visit the North Shore or South Shore of Lake Tahoe. We were told the North Shore is laid back and easy-going while the South Shore has more access to beaches, trails as well as nightlife, entertainment and gaming options. Which to choose?

We decided we might as well start this road trip adventure with a big bang so after careful consideration South Lake Tahoe became the first stop on our road trip itinerary!

As mentioned in our earlier post, while in Tahoe we’re attending the Sunday Pool Party at MontBleu Resort & Casino, going stand-up paddleboarding with South Tahoe Standup Paddle and enjoying a Tahoe Queen Emerald Bay Cruise. It’s going to be an action-packed 48 hours and we can’t wait!

South Lake Tahoe iPhone App

Another thing that impressed us about South Lake Tahoe was their free iPhone app. We already know it’s going to be 75 degrees (24 degrees Celsius) and sunny upon our arrival (talk about perfect weather after a week in San Francisco!) and we will be able to check up on Highway 50 updates once we start our drive. The app also provides a list of nearby options such as dining, nightlife and shopping utilizing the phone’s GPS so we will always know exactly where to go once we get to our destination.

We’re not too sure how many other cities have their own mobile app with such extensive functionality but a lot of other travel destinations could really learn a thing or two from South Lake Tahoe’s iPhone app and implement a similar solution!

If you want to check out the app, it’s available in the App Store. Let us know what you think!

The Road Trip Blogging Plan

We know some of you are wondering how we’re often we’re going to post on Don’t Ever Look Back while we’re on the road.

To answer that question, we are going to be posting as often as we can on our road trip but we know that this won’t always be possible due to our jam-packed itinerary and because we’re not sure how reliable our internet connection will be in Yosemite National Park and some of our other stops. If you want to keep up-to-date with what we’re doing and where we are, your best bet would be to become a fan on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

With 12 hours until we get on the road, all that’s left to say is let the road trip begin!

Have you been to South Lake Tahoe before? What was your favorite thing to do there?
