Looking Back At Our 2011 Adventures In Photos

Looking Back At Our 2011 Adventures In Photos

It’s not often that we look back on this blog (after all, it’s called Don’t Ever Look Back) but 2011 was easily the best year of our lives so we just had to put together a recap of our best photos and adventures over the past 365 days.

Clarke Quay Singapore At Night

Our first traveling adventure of 2011 was in April when we visited Singapore and the Philippines. The main reason for this trip? Kieron’s parents renewed their vows in a traditional Filipino wedding and we just had to be there. Another highlight of this trip was our visit to Sentosa Island in Singapore.

Sydney Harbour

On July 23rd, our round-the-world trip officially kicked off with a short visit to Sydney. It was the first time we visited the Harbour City together and we were sure to check out Sydney Harbour, the world-famous Bondi Beach and the Chinese Garden of Friendship.

Sunset from Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu

We left Australian shores for the first international stop on our RTW – Honolulu, Hawaii. The two of us rode mopeds around the island of Oahu, took surfing lessons, swum with sharks and hiked Diamond Head Crater. I guess we could say that we definitely started our big journey with a bang!

Makena Beach on Maui

Our time in Hawaii also included relaxing on the beaches of Maui and visiting the amazing Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island.

Chioke the Giraffe at Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

From Hawaii we headed to the US mainland and a month on the West Coast. Some of our highlights included feeding giraffes in Seattle and road tripping from San Francisco to Las Vegas via South Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Disneyland and even the MTV Video Music Awards.

Amy and Luna the Beluga Whale

It was then off to San Antonio, Texas where we had arguably the highlight of our trip – interacting with Beluga Whales at SeaWorld. We also enjoyed the San Antonio Riverwalk, a college football game and a Lil Wayne/Rick Ross concert but it was impossible to top our whale experience.

Cloud Gate in Millenium Park Chicago

The US Midwest was our next destination with time in Chicago and St. Louis. We took on traditional Chicago-Style Food and checked out the views from the John Hancock Observatory and Willis Tower. It was then down to St. Louis where we enjoyed free Budweiser at the original Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Missouri Wine, Gooey Butter Cake and a Blues Hockey Game (cheers Scott!).

Central Park NYC

After short visits to Niagara Falls and the US capital Washington, D.C., we made New York City our home for 17 nights. Our apartment was one block away from Central Park so we spent a lot of our time there. But our biggest adventure? Getting the train to Stamford, Connecticut to see the Jerry Springer Show.

Walking on a Glacier in Iceland

We just can’t describe how awesome Iceland was – it was easily the best destination we visited in 2011 and you probably realized that if you’re read our posts from there. The country is so unique (check out these random facts!) and we had several once-in-a-lifetime experiences here.

We saw the biggest creature in the world during a whale watching tour, overcame our jetlag at the Blue Lagoon, hiked on a glacier and were taken all around Iceland in a modified super jeep. If Iceland isn’t on your bucket list, please do yourself a favor and add it immediately!

Loch Lomond Scotland

The two of us then headed over to London where we spent 4 nights seeing the sights before embarking on a road trip of Scotland. It was then back to London (via Manchester) for World Travel Market where we met up with many of our favorite travel bloggers and even caught a celebrity or two including Brian Lara, Dannii Minogue and the future King of Spain.

Eiffel Tower

After London we flew over to the Netherlands to explore Amsterdam and check out the controversial Sinterklaas festival. It was then onto the fantastic European trains as we made our way down through Brussels, Belgium (talk about awesome food!) and finally down to Paris where we made fools of ourselves at the Eiffel Tower.

The rest of the year took us down to Kuala Lumpur and Kieron learned Muay Thai Kickboxing in Phuket while Amy attended an Eminem concert in Melbourne.

2011 was one hell of a year and hopefully we can make 2012 even better!

Thank you for following along on our adventures – we really hope you’ve enjoyed them. Be sure to sign up to our newsletter and become a fan on Facebook if you want to keep up to date with what we get up to in the New Year!
