Looking Back At Our 2012 Adventures In Photos

Looking Back At Our 2012 Adventures In Photos

We spent nearly half of 2011 traveling the world, visiting over 10 countries and sharing our amazing adventures with you, our readers.

At the beginning of 2012, the two of us had no idea what the universe had in store for us and there’s no way that we could’ve predicted how things turned out.

Without the necessary budget to continue traveling, Amy returned back to her old job while Kieron was lucky enough to stumble upon a dream 3-month contract job at the end of March. Our plans were to save and travel to Europe for the summer festivals, however these plans didn’t eventuate and currently we’re both still employed and recently moved into a new apartment in Melbourne.

Regardless of our circumstances, we’ve traveled at every opportunity possible and here are the results of our past 12 months in photos.

Melbourne Skyline At Night

We started the year by exploring as much of our own Melbourne backyard as we possibly could.

Giraffe at Werribee Open Range Zoo

One of our highlights was an African Safari at the Werribee Open Range Zoo where the two of us got up close with some beautiful giraffes on the savannah like the one above. We also participated in the Australia Day Thong Challenge, searched for the “Big Things” on Phillip Island and went ice-skating at Melbourne’s world-class facilities.

Cradle Mountain Tasmania

It was then down south to Tasmania in February to visit Launceston, Hobart and Cradle Mountain. We watched Tasmanian Devils feed and kayaked on the Derwent River in what was a throughly enjoyable short vacation. Want to see more of our time in Tassie? Our video, The Best of Tasmania, was one of our most popular of 2012.

Sydney Harbour Bridge at Sunrise

To celebrate Amy’s 25th Birthday in March we visited Sydney for a weekend and were able to spend it in some luxury accommodation overlooking the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge – just stunning at sunrise! It was also home to the best Malaysian food we’ve ever tasted.

Relax at Catseye Beach

After two months at home, we visited our fourth Australian state of the year in May when we flew to Hamilton Island on the Whitsundays.

Amy and Kieron on Whitehaven Beach

The Great Barrier Reef From Above

The Whitsundays is home to famous Australian destinations such as Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef, two things on the bucket list that we were able to tick off!

Happy snowboarders - Amy and Kieron

We then were forced to endure a pretty miserable Melbourne winter but made the most of it by watching Australian Rules Football and trying out snowboarding for the first time at Mount Buller.

Our remarkable view from the Traders Hotel

Three months later in August we were on the road again and fortunately warmer weather was awaiting us in Kuala Lumpur, as was this remarkable view of the Petronas Twin Towers from the Traders Hotel.

Singapore Skyline

We then headed to one of our favorite countries, Singapore, where we ate at an all-you-can-eat dessert bar as well as plenty of hawker food. We even checked out a $7,000/night room at the Marina Bay Sands – if only we got to stay there!

Our Langkawi Chalet on the Sea

Oh well, our Premier Water Chalet in Langkawi was more than good enough for us! Unfortunately our Langkawi Cable Car experience didn’t go quite to plan but the Sunset Dinner Cruise was a highlight of our romantic getaway.

Mountain Biking Mount Stromlo

At the end of October we took part in Canberra’s Human Brochure campaign, our fifth Australian state of 2012 and the first time we’d been to Australia’s capital city. The Australian War Memorial, Mountain Biking at Mt. Stromlo and a four-wheel drive adventure at Tidbinbilla were just some of the activities that were packed into our massive weekend there!

After climbing Baldwin Street, steepest street in the world.

Right now we’re currently in New Zealand where we’ll bring in 2013 – not a bad way to start the New Year, our first ever spent abroad!

Look out for all of our adventures from NZ in the next few weeks where hopefully we’ll have some travel announcements to bring you also! We’ll begin 2013 employed but who knows where we’ll be when the clock strikes midnight in just over 365 days time!

Thanks for sticking with us and the best place to keep up with all of our updates is on Facebook, Instagram or by signing up to our newsletter.
