Our blog goals for 2011

Our blog goals for 2011

A comment on our post Celebrating One Month of Travel Blogging by Ben really got us thinking about the future of this blog and what we want to achieve in one month’s time, in three months time, in six months time… well, you get the drift.

So we thought about it for a few days, half-wrote this post and then quickly proceeded to forget about it. Good travel bloggers we are, hey?! That was until the Travel Blog Challenge refreshed our memories and urged bloggers to set goals in order to be successful. With that swift kick, we’ve now finally finished this post and are releasing it to coincide with the 3 month anniversary of Don’t Ever Look Back which was celebrated on January 16.

Our Original Goal

The original objective of Don’t Ever Look Back was simply to share our adventures with friends, family and other travelers and possibly inspire others to follow in our footsteps. While this will continue to be our primary objective, the response we’ve gotten over the past 3 months means that our blog needs to evolve beyond that and we need to set some measurable goals to chase.

The Goals

Due to this rapid growth of this blog, these goals have been revised many times already and we will most likely review them again in the coming months. They might be overly ambitious, but here are the 5 main things we want to achieve with Don’t Ever Look Back by the time 2011 is done and dusted:

Post at least twice a week. What’s the key to a good blog? In our eyes there are two main criteria to success and they are content and consistency. By setting ourselves the goal of posting at least twice a week, we hope to satisfy both of these criteria and as a result reach the rest of the goals listed below. After all, who’s going to subscribe to a blog that updates sporadically?

Reach 750 Facebook Fans. At the time of posting, our Facebook page had reached 137 fans. This goal is probably our most ambitious as we wouldn’t say we’re using our fan page effectively at the moment. However, we definitely expect it to gain some serious momentum when we finally get on the road. Daily travel photos and interactive discussions are just some of the ideas we’re floating and there are plenty of others in our thoughts. Help us reach this goal by becoming a Facebook fan of Don’t Ever Look Back.

Pass 2,000+ Twitter Followers. This is another avenue that we expect to use significantly more when we get on the road. With that said, we still think we tweet some interesting stuff and enjoy good conversations with fellow travelers via Twitter. So far we’ve got 584 followers, about 30% of the way to our goal, so please follow us on Twitter if you’re not already!

Exceed 250 RSS Subscribers. RSS subscribers are the equivalent of “loyal customers” in the blog world and we want more of them! While it’s difficult to rely on the fluctuating Feedburner count to give an accurate number, our peak so far has been 79 subscribers. You can subscribe to Don’t Ever Look Back via your RSS reader or get our latest posts direct to your inbox!

Succeed at the 1000-1000 challenge. We announced two weeks ago that we were joining the 1000-1000 blog challenge! The goal is to build Don’t Ever Look Back to the point where it earns $1000 USD per month and gets an average of 1000 visitors/day. If we can get to these goals by the end of 2011, we’ll be delighted!

Have you set goals for your blog in 2011? If so, what are they? And what do you think of our goals? Remember, you can help us achieve these goals by becoming a fan on Facebook, following us on Twitter or subscribing to our RSS feed!
