Our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers (part 2)

We know you’ve all been eagerly waiting for this post! So here it is – Part 2 of our series on our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers. If you missed out on Part 1 featuring Inspiring Travellers and Where Is Jenny, you can find it here.

After some indecision about the format of this series, we’ve decided to split it up over 4 separate posts ordered by date of departure. This post features 3 bloggers who are all departing in the next 6 months and these 3 interviews prove that anybody can go around-the-world if they have the passion and desire. It also highlights what a diverse range of bloggers there are in this awesome community – thanks to everyone who has gotten involved in this series of posts, we’re so impressed by all of you!.

Jack and JillJack and Jill – Jack and Jill Travel The World

Who are you?

We’re Jack and Jill, a married couple from California, US. We earn paychecks during the week, and climb mountains on weekends (our other passion than traveling). Other things that we both like: drinking lots of chocolate soy milk, really good coffee, our pet rats, and talk about the day. You know, the day when we’re finally leaving our jobs and everything we own and go see the world.

Where are you going?

Our itinerary so far has us visiting these regions: China – Kyrgyzstan – Mongolia – end up in western Europe – Turkey – Georgia – northern Africa – down western Africa – South America. But that’s just a non-binding blueprint. We expect we’ll be adjusting our itinerary once we’re on the road. There are many variables that affect our decisions on which countries to visit, but ease of entry requirement is pretty up there. Of course there’s always an exception — like China for example.

When are you leaving?

April 2011 at the earliest. Jill is at a quite a limbo with her immigration status here in the US: her green card is currently being processed and who knows when it’s going to be ready. But assuming everything goes well, April 2011 it is.

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

I had never met anyone who says “I wish I had traveled less” .We think deep inside everyone has this desire to travel the world but decide not to do it and wait for… I don’t know what, really. Some divine sign? We’re not the most patient people. Why wait when you can do it now? And it’s really not as expensive as a lot of people think.

Originally the trip was going to revolve around visiting world renown climbing destinations — we’re both into climbing and stuff. But faced with the logistic nightmare of hauling our heavy gear around while we’re so used to travel light — we chickened out and put the idea aside. Maybe next RTW trip?

Who are you?

I’m Nick and I currently live in Atlanta, GA, actually I live in the suburbs of Atlanta. My ultimate goal is to be location independent. That can mean different things to different people, for me it means that I can make a living where ever I am. When I start my trip I will be traveling but I might decide to stay somewhere for a while until I get bored and decide to move on.

Where are you going?

I don’t actually have a plan on where I’m going, by design. At this point I’ll probably just show up at the airport and just ask for the cheapest flight out. I’m not a planner by nature and I want the flexibility to be able to take advantage of opportunities as they come along.

When are you leaving?

I’m leaving in June 2011. I will be attending the World Domination summit in Portland Oregon and I’m using that as a kick off point. There is a lot of awesome people attending that I’ve been connecting to. I’m really pumped to meet all these bad asses.

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

I don’t think my story is all that different from many people that are on a similar quest. I essentially got burned out by trying to conform to the status quo. I’ve spent many years doing things because that’s what your supposed to do. I built a career, I acquired the house and all the things that go along with it. I’m not married and I don’t have the 2 1/2 kids and white picket fence but I do have the status quo starter kit.

I just can’t do that any more, it has killed my drive and I want that back.

Who are you?

Is that an existential question? Who am I? What part do I fill in this vast universe? 🙂 Talon & Tigger (just a nickname, don’t panic)

Where are you going?

Ecuador (our dry run trip) and then Ireland, UK, Amsterdam, Prague, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, possibly Maldives, India, possibly Nepal, Thailand (where we plan on living for a year). The following years will include other places, including some long stops of at least 6 months at a time (as long as they cooperate with visas). In about 2013 or 2014 we plan on visiting Antarctica, and then we will have been to all 7 continents.

When are you leaving?

Ecuador in March 2011 and then the big trip 14 June 2011 is our current plan.

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

I have always wanted to raise my child in other cultures, to have them experience the large world outside of our home country, to truly have a chance to really absorb other cultures, see how others live, and to be a global citizen. He’s now at the perfect age for doing something like this (9), and since I’m still relatively young & healthy, why not? After working in intensive care, trauma, and hospice for years, my family & personal motto became Vivez sans regrets! (Live without regrets!) So, that’s what we’re doing. If there’s any way I can pull this off sooner, then we’ll do it. Tomorrow is just an illusion, gotta grab what we can while it’s here.
