Our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers (part 3)

Part 3 of our series on our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers features 3 bloggers, all of whom are departing in July 2011. Since we’ll likely be leaving in July also, we can strongly relate to all of them and definitely share a lot of the same thoughts, feelings and emotions. Be patient, we’re only about 200 days away from perhaps the biggest adventure of our lives!

Matt - 1YearSabbaticalMatt – 1YearSabbatical

Website | Twitter | Facebook

Who are you?

I’m Matt Koenig, a husband and father of two kids. I currently work in IT but am planning a family sabbatical. I write about this at http://www.1yearsabbatical.com. One of my beliefs is that any of us can do cool things now; regardless of your age or family status. We don’t have to wait until retirement to ‘enjoy’ life. There are plenty of opportunities out there if we are willing to consider the unconventional. We want to show that you can enjoy long terms travel or living overseas with a family.

Where are you going?

We are going to Indonesia but will hopefully also be able to stop for several weeks in Cambodia. My wife is Indonesian so that is where we will be staying and spending time exploring the Country. I also have a friend that lives in India and I may take a trip there as well.

When are you leaving?

Our original intent is to sell all of our belongings and depart for Indonesia in July of 2011. Much of this depends on whether we can get our finances to a point where we can live in Indonesia for at least 6 months without worrying about money. With any luck we will be able to depart as scheduled.

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

Why did you decide to go on this trip? – One of the primary reasons we decided to take this 1 year sabbatical was that my wife is Indonesian so she obviously wants to spend some time there with her family and friends. We also agree that it is important for our kids to be able to experience the other half of their cultural heritage. We really want them to learn and speak fluent bahasa Indonesia and what better way to learn than by integrating into local Indonesian life. For me personally this decision was based in part on my desire to live in a foreign country and expand on my one true passion; photography. But also for the past several years I’ve experienced a feeling of dissatisfaction in my life, almost a feeling that there is something more out there calling me. The more I thought about it the more it made sense to take a break from everything that we know and take a sabbatical to try and figure it all out. I want to be able to spend the time working on my photography business and really doing some serious self-exploration of what it is I want to be doing and where it is I want to be going, both personally and career-wise.

Who are you?

I am an American millionaire who witnessed the death of my parents as a child. I have now sworn for revenge on crime and will help justice succeed. Oh wait noooo that’s not me that Bruce Wayne’s alter ego BATMAN!!!

Okay I am Jaime, I am twenty something guy who is tired of working and slaving away at a job I hate. I have said enough is enough and am doing what needs to be done too BREAKAWAY and see the world. I’m really just a goofy guy with lots of random thing to say about everyday life. I try not to take thing serious any more and just go with the flow.

Oh and something that you must know about me is that I love KELLY CLARKSON!!!

Where are you going?

My current RTW itinerary is to start in Europe do a city blitz of the major cities I want to visit for two months then make my way to Turkey and begin the Middle East portion of my trip. After I am done with Europe I plan on really slowing down and indulging every culture (since it will be cheaper to do so). I will go from Turkey through Syria, Jordan, Israel and finally make my way to Egypt. I plan on spending a while in Egypt as it is one of the countries I am most interested in. From Egypt I plan on flying to India. After India I will begin the South East Asia portion of my trip. While in SEA I want to visit Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia & the Philippines. After all that is done I want to make my way back home by visiting friends. So I’ll be stopping by in Hawaii, California, Utah then finally back home to Houston, TX. I have even thought about getting a working visa for Australia and in the middle of my trip go live/work there for a year then continue on with my backpacking adventure. I’m not sure about that yet but I have a while to make up my mind, anyway nothing is set in stone and well this can change at anytime and who knows maybe I end up in Kazakhstan.

When are you leaving?

I haven’t purchased my plane ticket yet so don’t have a set date but I know it will be on or before July 27, 2011!!!

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

Honestly I decided to do this because I was on probation for the biggest MISTAKE of my life. I felt trapped from that but I was also just sick and tired of going through the same routine day in and day out. I have always had a passion to travel and have been too a few places but am now gonna take the plunge and go for a year or two or who knows maybe FOREVER!

Website | Twitter

Who are you?

Well, my name’s Lauren. I’m 22, living just outside of London, England, where I’ve lived my whole life and I’m currently in my last year of a physics degree at Royal Holloway university.

Where are you going?

I’m trying not to make too many fixed plans and just decide on where I want to go to as I go along! At the moment I am planning on spending 3-4 months travelling across Europe. After that I am going to spend 2 months volunteering in Hawaii. I’d like to then try and get a working holiday visa for New Zealand and Australia and spend a lot of time there exploring, and finally I want to spend a lot of time in SE Asia, and India too. I basically just want to travel until all my money runs out, and see how far I get, and how long I can travel for! 🙂

When are you leaving?

20th July 2011. Just under 8 months, I cannot wait!

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

I’ve always wanted to travel, for as long as I can remember. I never saw it as a possibility before, and always assumed I’d have a normal 9-5 life, where 2 weeks of the year I’d get to choose a new destination to explore. One day I stumbled upon a backpacking forum, and saw all these people travelling all round the world, going wherever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and it sounded absolutely amazing. I was even more shocked when I discovered just how affordable it really could be too! I graduate university this year so it seems like the perfect time to go. I won’t have a full-time job that I’ll have commitments to, no boyfriend to stay behind for, there’s nothing holding me back so I can’t wait to finally get out there and start exploring the world!
