Our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers (part 4)

Welcome to the fourth and final part of our series on our favorite #rtwsoon travel bloggers. If you missed any of the previous three posts, the links are below:

We’ve been absolutely delighted with the response that we’ve received from both our interviewees and our readers. As a result, we plan on running more of these interviews in 2011 as more #rtwsoon bloggers join our community – so please contact us if you would like to be featured in a future post. It’s been so great that we’ve been able to give additional exposure to our 11 featured #rtwsoon travel bloggers and provide them with some well-deserved attention and hopefully some new followers.

The final post in this series features another diverse collection of travelers so enough with the writing from us, let’s meet these awesome people already!

Jenneil & Linda - Hello, Meet WorldJenneil & Linda – Hello, Meet World

Website | Twitter | Facebook

Who are you?

Two geeky girls living and working in Sacramento, CA… more specifically:

Jenneil: After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Forensic science and dedicating myself to the public sector for 14 years, I realized my dreams and goals did not mesh with the reality I was living. In 2004, I faced a unique transition in my life which compelled me to begin writing. It was only then I realized where my true passion lived: in the pen, in the pad of paper, in the coffee shop & in my head.

I have spent the past 6 years preparing myself to make a huge career change. This trip is the catalyst and the blog is the diving board. Eventually, I would love to create my own backpack/travel gear company to satiate the gear geek side of me.

Linda: I am a culture junkie born in the U.S., but “Heche en Mexico.” After spending over 7 years in non-profit organizations working with the Latino community, I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with the intention of starting my own non-profit counseling/cultural center.

I love running and have a weird habit of snapping photos of my feet in front of the various landmarks and places we visit. “Coming soon to a blog near you…. The Taj Mahal with Linda’s feet in the foreground.”

Where are you going?

Ideally, we will be heading to Mexico, South America, Europe (very briefly), India & Thailand. Linda will be heading back in June and Jenneil is exploring the idea of traveling solo for a couple of months in South East Asia.

Since this trip will be much shorter than we originally planned, we have been tossing around the idea of returning to the backpacking world in 2012 for a full year.

When are you leaving?

We will be departing the U.S around February 5, 2011 after a brief pit-stop in San Diego.

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

“Inside a tiny tent, in the pouring rain with bronchitis slowly creeping into my lungs, my passion for traveling was born.” ~Jenneil

In ’07 and ’08 we took two trips to remote areas of Chiapas, Mexico for research. After returning to the U.S., we both realized how much those experiences had impacted our lives. So, 2 years ago, we made a pact that we would travel around the world right after Linda graduated. And, here we are…

Daniel & Kathryn - Two Go RTWDaniel & Kathryn – Two Go Round-The-World

Website | Twitter | Facebook

Who are you?

Daniel and Kathryn grew up in a subdivision in the suburbs of Toronto, the postage stamp lawns crisscrossed with clotheslines: stockings, sheer nightgowns, t-shirts, billowing in the breeze and spelling out a message: “This is home.” And it was home; it is home—home it will forever be. We love it for that and, whenever we’re home, our eyes run over its streets and stores and backyards like a well-read passage from our favorite book, the book that falls open to the same facing pages every time it’s thumbed through. And although we’ve been away to study, to work, to travel, our lives always seem to unfold into this place.

Where are you going?

In short, we’re not sure! With so many options and ‘must-visit’ sights on the world map, we’re in need of some ideas of where to go and how to plan our experience. That’s why we started a blog! So, if you have any ideas, let us know!

“We are all of us resigned to death: it’s life we aren’t resigned to,” novelist Graham Greene once wrote. However, a growing number of people are embracing that idea by renewing a resolve to live life to its fullest. It’s our firm belief that twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. To that end we’ve put together (and frequently update) a ‘bucket list’—a list of things we would like to do before we ‘kick the bucket.’

When are you leaving?

Not soon enough! We are tentatively slated to leave in mid-2011. But this is dependent on a number of factors. We’re lucky enough to have day jobs that we love — so we’re loathe to leave them unless we’re certain they’ll have us back!

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

No matter how beautiful or comfortable home may be, we’re quietly reminded of the adage attributed to St Augustine: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”. And so it was with St Augustine’s maxim echoing in our minds that we decided in August 2008 that we would trade in our clotheslines for Tibetan prayer flags.

Where once we sought roots in the security of our workaday lives, we now seek branches in the promise of travel, which we expect will allow us to stretch, grow and reach new heights. For many people (including ourselves), making a commitment to long-term travel is the most difficult part. And while there is a lot of work left to be done—it’s really just details.

Lorna – The Roamantics

Website | Twitter | Facebook

Who are you?

I’m Lorna MacMillan, a Bay Area, CA- based freelance documentary filmmaker, anthropologist, traveler, and blogger/creator of theroamantics.com.

Where are you going?

Not really sure yet, but I’ll definitely be following the sun! I’m dying to go to India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Morocco and Cuba, and I’ve been to SE Asia a few times and love it, so I’ll return. I can never seem to get over Thailand. We did our research there, returned two years later and will absolutely go back. I also try to be as green as possible, so I’ll be considering my impact as I make plans. But there really isn’t anywhere I wouldn’t go given the right circumstances and money – and I’m a low-budget backpacker, so fortunately my money goes farther!

When are you leaving?

Originally the plan was to go from 11-11-11 to 12-12-12, but we’ll see – I’m getting pretty antsy reading about others’ great adventures. I think it may be sooner, and longer!

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

It’s not enough for me to hear or read about other cultures – I have to see for myself. It’s always been just a matter of time until the “big trip,” and now it may turn into a lifestyle. I have a great life, full of people and experiences I’m grateful for, but I know that if I don’t travel extensively, I’ll regret it when I’m old… and I’m not going to let that happen 🙂
