Perfume Tours in Paris

Perfume Tours in Paris

This is a guest post by Neva Marte.

Spring is definitely the season during which our sense of smell is continuously stimulated. Even walking through the city streets we can suddenly be surprised by the aroma of a linden tree blossom or the smell of fresh lilies.  This fills us with energy and may be one of the reasons why we are so prone to go through some kind of renewal process: New friends; a new, just discovered, favourite band; a new haircut, new shoes of course, and why not, a new, fresh, alluring and glamorous perfume!

Are you spending some days in Paris apartments and would like to have some tips on the best perfumeries in the city? There might be innovative Japanese, stylish American and elegant Italian perfumes, but I do personally believe in the excellence of the French perfumes. Didn’t the legendary Chanel nº 5 already gain immortality? Not to mention the fact that those of us who got once poisoned by Dior’s fragrances, just can’t give them up!  According to Wikipedia, the French city of Grasse is one of the most important perfume production centres.

Galeries Lafayette

Galeries Lafayette is a great place to start your search for perfume.

You may start at the cosmetic sections of the famous department stores Galeries Lafayette (40 Boulevard Haussmann) and Printemps (64 Boulevard Haussmann). Close to the Galeries Lafayette there is the Parfumerie Fragonard and the Musée du Parfum (9 rue Scribe), worth the visit to learn something about the history of perfumes and basic facts about its manufacturing.

To discover the latest in style and fashion, you shouldn’t miss one of the most renowned Parisian concept store the boutique, Just Colette in 213 Rue Saint-Honoré, not far away from the Louvre Museum. Two shops, one in  Avenue Montagne 34 and another one in 90 Rue Fbg St Honoré, are the showcases of one of  the oldest and most exclusive perfume houses, Caron, founded in 1904 by Ernest Daltroff.

Next stop should be at Place Vendome, where there are many perfumeries. I dare to recommend Montale ( Place Vendome 26). Another must see is the marvellous Guerlain building in 68 Champs-Élysées. If your nose can take some more and you’re not tired enough to go back to your apartments in Paris, drop in also at Serge Lutens (Jardins du Palais Royal, Galerie de Valois 142) and the Francis Kurkdjian’s shop in 5 rue d’Alger.

Enjoy the scent of Paris in spring!
