In Part 1 of our Highway One Road Trip Photo Essay, we covered day 1 our journey from San Francisco down to Cambria on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The plan for the second and final day of our journey was to make it down to Santa Monica as quickly as possible. We did schedule a short stop for lunch in Santa Barbara and were sure to allow time for some photos along the way but unfortunately as we approached Santa Barbara on this sunny Friday, we had our first encounter with southbound LA traffic. If only we knew! Traffic delays reduced our time significantly and made us rush more than we already were.
The photo below shows the lovely road ahead before we hit traffic!
Santa Barbara Zoo
We had time for only one activity in Santa Barbara and we chose to visit the zoo in the hope of fulfilling Amy’s dream to get up close and personal with the zoo’s tallest resident and hand feed the giraffes. Regrettably, this dream had to be placed on hold for the time-being as we missed the scheduled feeding times by the matter of a few minutes. Despite the disappointment, we still had an enjoyable day at Santa Barbara Zoo.
Malibu Beach
The beachside mansions were spectacular, but for us the biggest drawcard here were the lifeguard towers from Baywatch! We pulled over at the side of the road to check them out and also to take the top off of our Ford Mustang for the cruise into Santa Monica. We sure do miss that car!
Santa Monica
Cruising down Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica brought an end to our incredible journey, not only our Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip but also the end of our USA vacation. While it’s sad to end any vacation, it was definitely a memorable way to do it!
