Road Trip Day 9: Where to see the Hollywood Sign?

Road Trip Day 9: Where to see the Hollywood Sign?

Confession: We’ve got a slight obsession with touristy signs.

If you read about our first day in Los Angeles, you would have seen photos of the Beverly Hills sign in Beverly Gardens Park and how excited we were to get them. But when you think Los Angeles, there’s a more famous sign that’s only about 10 miles away from that one.

The Hollywood Sign.

The last time we were in LA in 2009, we took photos of the famous sign from the Hollywood & Highland Center. We’re very fussy about our photos though and later decided that these pictures just weren’t good enough.

Since we had a car on this road trip, we knew we could get a better shot and dedicated an entire day to finding where to see the Hollywood sign.

The Hollywood Sign from Canyon Lake Drive. Much better!

After considerable research, we identified Canyon Lake Drive as THE best place to see the Hollywood Sign. We typed the address details into our GPS and set off on the drive through the beautiful Hollywood Hills until we reached our destination – Lake Hollywood Park.

All that was left to do was snap our pictures!

From the spot on Canyon Lake Drive, you also get a great view of the Hollywood Reservoir.

If you’re visiting Los Angeles and want to get a great photo of the Hollywood Sign, this is definitely where you want to go! Just type 3000 Canyon Lake Drive into your GPS or Google Maps and it will show you how to get there.

Other Places to See The Hollywood Sign

Originally we were going to hike to the Hollywood sign but unfortunately with temperatures around 90 degrees, we opted against it. For those wanting to take the 45-minute hike to the Hollywood Sign, you’re going to want to take the Hollyridge trail. You can find directions on how to get to the trail here.

Other places you can see the Hollywood Sign are:

  • Mulholland Drive – a bit further away but provides an astonishing view of Los Angeles.
  • Griffith Park Observatory – nice place to view the sign and great views of Los Angeles as well.
  • Hollywood & Highland Center – if you don’t have a car, this is where you can see the Hollywood Sign from.

As we’ve said though (and the pictures prove!), easily the best place to see the Hollywood Sign is Canyon Lake Drive. Now that we had the pictures we wanted, we could leave Los Angeles happy!

We’re currently road tripping through California thanks to the generous help of Fox Rent A Car.
