#rtwsoon Interview: Ed – Rexy Edventures

This month’s #rtwsoon interview is with Ed Rex of Rexy Edventures who is setting off on a solo journey around the world in March.

He is probably one of the more inspiring bloggers we’ve come across since launching our website. Why, you ask? Well Ed is profoundly deaf in both ears and the fact that he is taking off on such a big adventure by himself is pretty damn awesome in our eyes!

Read on to find out more.

Ed saying helloWho are you?

Hello! I’m Ed Rex of RexyEdventures.com, a solo digital nomad soon to go on a round the world Edventure for the best part of 2012. My blog will be focusing on the randomness that happens on my travels, the best ways to travel in Great Britain, and also as important travel planning!

I’m from Yorkshire in the UK famed for its Yorkshire Tea of which I’m an avid drinker and I love travelling in Britain.

Other than travelling the wonders of Great Britain, I have travelled to Uganda for a volunteering project, Germany, Spain, Malta, France, Belgium, Amsterdam and finally Ireland.

Where are you going on your RTW?

I’m insanely excited to where I am going. It’s gonna be one heck of a journey of a lifetime! I’ll be going through SE Asia through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore for 2 months to which I will be travelling and volunteering at not for profit organisations.

After that, I will be utilising my WHV in Australia for 3 months going down along the East Coast. I’m an environmentalist so hopefully I will working at some great environmental projects. After that I shall be bussing it round New Zealand with Kiwi Experience for a month using their Funky Chicken Pass. After all that travelling, I guess I should relax in the stopover of Fiji for a week before heading onwards to the western seaboard of USA. San Fran and Vegas baby!

Then it’s home time just in time for the World Travel Market in London!

Looking forward to going #rtwsoon!

Looking forward to going #rtwsoon!

When are you leaving?

25th March 2012 to Bangkok Baby!

Why did you decide to go on this trip?

After a good few years of daydreaming about travels, being there for my family and struggling to gain the confidence to travel solo due to my hearing impairment, I finally took the plunge to go on my solo travels after my family was pretty much sorted out and receiving a brilliant operation that improved my hearing dramatically. Also, I wasn’t challenged enough in my job and hated sitting in front of a computer 24/7 so I decided to up and leave there and then and immediately bought my flights. It was the best feeling ever in ages. Finally, I now had direction, something to look forward to, and now recaptured that magical feeling of eternal wanderlust!

What will you be doing to pass the time before your travels?

I will be finding out ways to best travel around Britain and finish off my travel planning! Other than that I will be saving up for my travels using different fundraising ideas such as charging for my Bollywood dancing at weddings, bake sales, selling furniture, and many more!

But to relax? Films, food, love and laugh!

If you could give just one piece of advice to a fellow #rtwsoon traveler, what would it be?

Plan everything well in advance! Get all the paperwork sorted out and make sure you have everything you need. Here are some examples:
