The Most Unique Boutique Hotel In Singapore

The Most Unique Boutique Hotel In Singapore

“The Wanderlust Hotel, please”, we say to our taxi driver as we step out of the taxi stand at Singapore’s Changi Airport.

He looks at us blankly before admitting that he has never heard of it before. Fortunately we have the address handy which we hand to him as he proceeds to drive from the airport and into the Little India neighborhood of Singapore.

After locating Dickson Road, we are driven to the end of it and eventually discover the Wanderlust Hotel on the left. As soon as we enter the lobby of this former schoolhouse turned hotel, we knew this was going to be like no other hotel we’ve stayed in before.

Lobby Area of the Wanderlust Hotel

There are walls decorated with vintage posters, barber chairs, a bar and even a foosball table! We look around with a smile on our faces and step up to the front desk for check-in where we are given an itinerary with our room keys, wifi password and handy information about the local area.

Our Wanderlust Itinerary

We drop off our bags in our room and return to the lobby where Mae, the Marketing Communications Manager of Unlisted Collection, is ready to take us for a tour around the property.

Mae explains to us that each of the four floors have been given to a local design firm. Level One (Lobby) is “Industrial Glam”, Level Two is “Eccentricity”, Level Three is “Is it just Black and White?” and Level Four is “Creature Comforts”.

Around The Wanderlust Hotel

We start in a yellow Pantone Deluxe room on Level Two, a room rendered in a single hue. Each room on this floor is in a different color and unfortunately for Amy, the pink room has been booked out for the night and she can’t take a peek.

The two of us then check out the outdoor jacuzzi which unfortunately we don’t find the time to use during our stay at the Wanderlust.

Around the Wanderlust Hotel

We jump back in the elevator and head up to the third floor to check out one of the Mono Deluxe Rooms. Now this is definitely the coolest hotel room we’ve ever seen! The room is designed with pop-art that lights up and we take plenty of photos, secretly wishing to ourselves that we had booked in for a stay in this exact room.

Pop-Art Room

The top floor features Whimsical loft rooms and we take a look at the Tree and ASCII rooms which would be a fantastic adventure for those traveling at a family – how cool would it be for your kids to say they’ve stayed in a loft?

Our Room at Wanderlust Hotel

The two of us head back to the third floor to our room, a Mono Origami Room, and the first thing we notice is the beautiful bathroom with a rainfall showerhead and premium Kiehl’s products which is a very nice touch.

The highlight of our room is the lighting system which changes colors flicking from green to blue to pink to red and more! As the sun goes down, we get our camera ready to take photos of all the different colors that illuminate our room.

Have you ever seen anything like that? We haven’t!

After taking all of these photos, we finally get to try out the premium bed and it doesn’t disappoint! No wonder previous guests have asked to purchase these beds… it’s probably in the top five in terms of comfy beds we’ve stayed in on the road.

Breakfast at Cocotte

Included with your room at the Wanderlust Hotel is complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Cocotte. Fancier than the typical hotel breakfast, Cocotte offers a buffet counter with bread board, a variety of cereals, fruit juices and a DIY Muesli Bar. The friendly waitress brings us both our a chocolate croissant and asks if we’re ready to place our order.

Along with the buffet, guests receive one main course to go with it from homemade pancakes to your choice of eggs with a choice of sides.

The perfect food to fill your tummy before spending a day exploring Singapore!

Summary

We loved our stay at the Wanderlust – it’s great to get away from the standard hotel room and if you’re looking for something unique then there’s not many better places to check out.

In terms of downsides, our biggest complaint was the weather! On our first night it was absolutely pouring with rain and with the nearest MRT a 10-minute walk, we were forced to stay in (taxis are impossible to get in Singapore when it’s raining!).

Apart from that, there’s not too much we could fault at the Wanderlust and for the prices you’re paying, it’s definitely worth staying here if you visit Singapore!
