The Next Step: Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Langkawi

The Next Step: Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Langkawi

A month ago we made the decision to stay put in Melbourne and sacrifice a European trip for career advancement and extra savings.

However before we made that decision, we already had a non-refundable flight booked to Kuala Lumpur which was to be our first stop on the way to Europe. So when negotiating his job, Kieron made sure that he was able to take a couple of weeks off so that we could at least get some international travel under our belts in 2012.

And here’s the official announcement…

We’re spending just under two weeks in South East Asia and are leaving next Thursday!

We love South East Asia - Bohol Beach Club

Due to its close proximity to Australia, Asia is where the two of us started traveling and it’s where we fell in love with the traveling lifestyle. We’ve visited six South East Asian countries so far; several more than once and now have the golden opportunity to return once again.

Here’s the itinerary for our upcoming adventure…

Destination 1: Kuala Lumpur

As Air Asia’s hub, we’ve stayed in Kuala Lumpur on 5 different occasions and this marks number six. It’ll only be a short stay but we’ve got two very clear objectives – live it up at the Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur and find the best Roti Canai that the city has to offer!

Anybody know where we can find it?!

Petronas Towers Kuala Lumpur

Destination 2: Singapore

This will be our fourth visit to Singapore and if you’ve followed a blog for a while, you know how much we love Singapore. Although we’ve spent plenty of time here, there are many items left on our list of things to do and surely still will be even after we’ve departed.

A few of the things we’ll get up to include taking a ride on the Singapore Flyer and experiencing the Night Safari. That’s just the beginning though – we’ll be eating PLENTY of awesome street food and just wait until we show you where we’re staying!

Marina Bay Sands Singapore

Destination 3: Langkawi

After KL and Singapore, we’ll finally get to visit somewhere new and that will be the beautiful island that is Langkawi in Northwestern Malaysia. We’ll mostly be relaxing in Langkawi (we need to recharge those batteries!) but will try to squeeze in a few activities. If you’ve been to Langkawi before, suggestions are more than welcome!

We were hoping to do the short boat trip to Ko Lipe but unfortunately it’s in low season at the moment so the ferries aren’t running.

So that’s the plans for our upcoming trip to South East Asia – we think it’s a nice mixture of cities and beaches and are starting to get excited for our visit. The two of us can’t wait to share the fun with you over the next few weeks so keep on reading!

What do you want to see us do in KL, Singapore and Langkawi?
Any tips/suggestions would be awesome – leave them in the comments below!

It would be more than outstanding if you both got to stay at the Marina Bay Sands : that whole complex looks and sounds like a big fun house. 🙂

I enjoyed my short stay in Singapore, and there were a few other things I would like to have done. On the other hand, I stopped in Singapore to eat, eat, and eat some more.

    Have a great two weeks!

We’ll be spending quite a bit of time at the Marina Bay Sands – are we staying there though? That will be answered soon enough!

It’s amazing how many people don’t even venture out of the airport at Singapore… they’re truly missing out on this wonderful city.

And is you’re staying at the Marina Bay Sands I am so jealous 😉

Haha Marina Bay is quite the place, isn’t it? We’re definitely checking out the Infinity Pool this time whether we’re staying there or not!

and oh,it’s Ramadhan. make sure you join the breaking-fast during the sunset too.
But why Langkawi? Have you been to Perhentian Island, or east coast of Malaysia? Terengganu and Kelantan has lot to offers too. Anyway,hv fun!

We definitely will participate in Ramadan if we can Fiqah!

Langkawi was chosen because there are direct flights there from Singapore and it’s somewhere we’ve always wanted to check out. We’re doing a little backtracking but unfortunately that’s because this whole trip has been thrown together last-minute. It should still be good and we’re staying somewhere a little more remote hopefully.

Perhentian Island and Tioman Island are top of the list of other places we want to go in Malaysia and one day we’ll get there. For now, Langkawi will have to do! 🙂

Don’t tell the Singaporeans but food in Malaysia is way better than Singapore. 😉 There’s no actual street food, except the ice cream sandwich man.

Sounds like its gonna be a short but fun vacation. I will be visiting KL & Singapore soon so can’t wait to read what you think of them for you umpteenth visits to them. I will have to go back and read what you have written about SEA to see where to go and what not. As for Langkawi… never heard of it but will be writing it down and see what you have to say about it and maybe stop along while I am in SEA!!!

It definitely will – if you have any questions about either place just let us know, we’ll probably be able to answer them! Do you know if you’re coming to Australia yet?!

Australia is my dream country to visit after Egypt. I know I won’t be visiting this time around unless for some crazy reason I decide I wanna apply for the working VISA and wing it on like no $$$ and make it there…lol!!! So the truth is who knows~

But don’t forget we’re miles away from ANYWHERE else in the world haha. And it’s still an 8 hour flight to Singapore, not exactly that close… but we’re still not complaining, love SEA.

KL is great! SE Asia is very good for relaxed travel and it’s very cheap (well I have my doubts about Singapore…;-) But yes, it’s great traveling there, people are very friendly and the beaches are amazing. I wish you lots of fun.
