Touring the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis

Touring the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis

Located in the Midwestern city of St. Louis is the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, opened in 1852 and home to a family of beers including Budweiser, Bud Light and Michelob.

That might mean nothing to some of you, but the Brewery offers free tours 7 days a week that includes a free sample of their beers. Oh, so now you’re interested?

The tour begins inside the Tour Center where you can read about the Budweiser time-honored brewing process and see what malts look like. There’s also a whole lot of information behind the brewery’s history and of course, this is where your tour begins.

The guides will introduce themselves (we had Nathan and Paige), cover the safety precautions and then lead the group through the brewery tour door into the grounds of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

The first stop on the tour is the home of the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales – the beverage industry’s most recognizable mascots. There are over 200 Clydesdales here, the largest herd in North America. From the exercise yard, the tour takes you into the stables of the Clydesdales and you’re free to head straight to the sampling area from here (which a few of the tour group did!).

However for those actually interested in the brewery, this is just the beginning of your tour. You’ll find out about the Budweiser brewing process which is quite detailed; there are 7 steps that result in the fantastic taste of Budweiser.

The brewery tour takes you to the associated areas of the brewery including the Beechwood aging cellars and the mash tanks. But the most visual area of the tour is the bottling process where you can see the beer bottles passing down the line at great speed, being labeled and placed into packaging.

The Bevo Packaging Facility is the final stop of the Anheuser-Busch brewery tour and you then head to the bar for two free samples and accompanying pretzels. There’s a good range of beers to choose from and these aren’t just tiny samples like you would expect – these are full-sized beers that taste oh so good!

Is there anything in the world better than free beer?

If you ever get to visit St. Louis, be sure to stop by the Anheuser-Busch brewery for a free tour and ‘Grab Some Buds!’. It takes around an hour and does involve a bit of walking, but it is well worth the visit if you’re in town.
