Where In The World Is Amy & Kieron?

Where In The World Is Amy & Kieron?

So, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve been very quiet lately. A little too quiet.

And we hate it!

But no need for despair because Don’t Ever Look Back isn’t going anywhere – the last few weeks have just been insanely busy for us on both a personal and professional front but we’re expecting to get back to a regular posting schedule shortly.

In the meantime, here’s a quick update of what’s been happening in our world.

A New Apartment

New Apartment

After getting my dream job in March and then making the decision to continue building my career once that contract expired, I’m still employed in the digital media industry eight-months later and am under contract until April 2013.

That eight months included around three hours per day commuting to and from work. I don’t even want to do the maths on how many hours I’ve wasted on the bus or train in that time!

And although we saved a tremendous amount of money living with parents, the time arrived where we needed our own space and I needed to reduce my commute before I literally went insane. This would allow both of us to have extra time to dedicate to other priorities and projects like this blog.

So the two of us have moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Melbourne’s Bayside, a short walk to the beach and public transport with a much more manageable one hour per day of commuting. If you want to see more of our apartment and what we’re up to, give us a follow on Instagram.

No Internet

Working With No Internet

Unfortunately our intentions of spending a lot more time online and working on the blog after moving have been foiled by some useless Australian companies (we won’t name them just yet although this may change soon!).

You’ve possibly heard the rants from other bloggers/travelers about the slow speeds of internet in the Land Down Under. Guess what? Getting a brand new internet connection in a well-developed country like Australia is an even bigger nightmare!

From what we’ve been told, it will be approximately eight weeks before we’re up and running.  No, that wasn’t a typo – our wait for decent internet is eight freaking weeks!

We’re currently tethering our 3G internet access from our phones so we have some form of connection but as you can imagine, this is far from the ideal situation and impossible for uploading photos/videos/etc.

Travel Plans

New Zealand Milford Sound

Although we’ve moved and tied ourselves down to Melbourne by signing a lease, we still have dreams to travel as much as we possibly can.

As you may have already read in our second birthday post, we’ll be heading to the South Island of New Zealand just after Christmas and plan to spend two weeks there before heading up to Wellington for 3 nights. We’ll be sharing more of our Kiwi plans soon – once we’ve found some internet and have actually done some research!

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg… we’ve got some other exciting things planned for 2013 which we’ll reveal in due time.

So thanks for sticking around for the ride and we’ll be back to normal sooner rather than later!

Okay, okay. We’ll forgive you… just this once. But Amy, you have to take that computer away from Kieron when he showers!! 😛

Hope you get the Internet sorted soon. Another option is getting a Telstra mifi device – they’re fabulous for both at home and when working around the country… and pre-paid! 🙂

Hahaha, good luck separating me from the laptop for that long! We’ve got our hands on a Telstra device but unfortunately we can’t justify paying $40 for 1GB – it’s ridiculous! So tethering from our phones will have to do for now.

The apartment looks great! Congrats on finding a place and of course for the renewal of the contract. Looking forward to 2013 plans 🙂 I’m busy working too and trying to make time to work on other projects I’ve had on the back burner for too long.

Thanks Heather, all is going well at the moment despite not being able to travel as much as we would like. Hope all is well with you, congratulations on getting married and good luck for 2013. 🙂

Beautiful apartment! We’re settling down for at least 6 months too…after 9 months of travel. I am so excited to have a wardrobe again, my own space and to be able to exercise. The apartment looks gorgeous…can’t believe it takes 8 weeks to get internet though! :O

Thanks Steph, it’s so great to have a space to call our own again. 🙂

Eek, I don’t miss Australian Internet speeds. When my housemate moved out and took the Internet router with her (don’t ask) I ended up getting a dongle (awesome word) – Dodo turned out to be the cheapest. It certainly beat waiting for a new connection 🙂

Definitely noticed your absences on many social networking platforms. A break is good sometimes though, even when you don’t plan it. Looking forward to seeing your NZ adventures.

Good luck in all your future plans. Note: 8 weeks without Internet? I don’t know if I can survive that.

    Hi guys,
I totally feel your pain! I’ve been in the same boat over the past few months and it’s driving me insane! It crazy nuts isn’t it, how bad it is here? Although, I only had to wait five weeks… and it still isn’t right.
Hope the move went well and you’re settling in to your new pad.
We love our new place, so I guess it’s worth the hassle in a way 🙂
